We need to go further and regulate to ban touchscreens in cars (except for non-driver entertainment consoles). Screens for status and navigation displays can stay for now (but more research on distraction potential is needed). @cstross you had me at "you should be able to control your vehicle". I drive a thing with a "lane detection" system that has tried to nudge me into the opposite carriageway a couple of times. I mean, it physically moves the wheel. I can turn it off -- but when you start the car it's always on.
A colleague with a different car had his try to steer him into a ditch…
