    We need to go further and regulate to ban touchscreens in cars (except for non-driver entertainment consoles). Screens for status and navigation displays can stay for now (but more research on distraction potential is needed). But you should be able to control your vehicle by tactile feedback, without taking your eyes off the road.

      @cstross Yeah, those screens are dangerous and distracting, as has been proven over, and over again.

      @cstross you had me at "you should be able to control your vehicle". I drive a thing with a "lane detection" system that has tried to nudge me into the opposite carriageway a couple of times. I mean, it physically moves the wheel. I can turn it off -- but when you start the car it's always on.

      A colleague with a different car had his try to steer him into a ditch…
