   @Natasha_Jay God, the amount of my earlier life that was used up getting the curly cable on the telephone to lie ‘just so’ around the base. I thought people who overstretched the curly cable were a special sort of evil.

     @christineburns @Natasha_Jay As an apprentice in PO Telephones in the 60s I learned this was normally caused by people picking up the handset with one hand and putting it down with the other. On complaints after a few promotions I taled a few people how to remove the kink using a pencil
