    Nature reports that the NSF has stopped funding awardees entirely, “until further notice”. This administration is determined to destroy the country’s scientific research infrastructure by choking off funding and taking a wrecking ball to the merit review system.

      @kims @kjhealy My impression is that VCs can be very limited in long-term strategic thinking--see e.g. Andreessen's Techno-Optimist Manifesto. Two actions by the Biden admin conflicted with the "effective accelerationism" agenda: anti-trust enforcement, and regulating crypto as a financial instrument. Trump courted them by going all-in on crypto, even openly accepting bribes via bitcoin. They may also think that less regulation of private research can offset the destruction of gov funding.
