Many know that before #MexicoCity there was Tenochtitlan with its canals and artificial Islands. Living there were #axolotl salamanders whom the #Aztec believed to be the god Xolotl in disguise

The canals dried up and were polluted

The axolotl almost went extinct

But in the neighborhood #Xochimilco the islands and canals are being cleaned up and revived and the wetlands extended

18 captive-bred axolotls were released and all survived, even gaining weight
