  I see. I live in Iran and I could understand why it works. People can rely on existing email servers in Iran when the government had totally blocked the Internet (but not the Intranet) in Iran.
  However, my main pain point with Delta Chat, and the reason I don't use it anymore was that it is effectively blocked by any ISP that blocks SMTP ports (that is, my university). It is also much easier to block than other messengers in time of crisis, unless it uses normal TLS on port 443.

  @hosein we got reports that delta works when signal didn't but it's notoriously hard to nail exactly why something works/doesn't work. Delta generally deals relatively well with network throttling, does indefinite DNS caching, and has pervasive support for shadowsocks and socks5 proxies. It also helps to be able to use email servers inside the NaN.

  @delta What kind of hardening have you exactly done that aids the people of Iran. I'm unaware of such option in Delta Chat.

  Some of you may remember posts where we talk about #deltachat being hardened to work under bad and adverserial network conditions where other messengers fail. Examples were Georgia, Russia and Iran at the time.     @delta@chaos.social I've just have received a batch of messages from a friend with a timestamp from 5 and 2 hours ago. This is consistent with the idea that the messages are queued locally until the connections is reestablished. In those messages from hours ago my friend says that WhatsApp or even play mobile phone calls aren't working at all -- no mobile communications. What might happen also is that in such event millions of people reach out to WA servers simultaneously and insistently, which won't help.
