we need to restructure the UN. the will of the international community should not be able to be stymied by the permanent members of the UNSC.

@wjmaggos I heard a great podcast episode on the Ezra Klein show about this. The guest pointed out that the veto of permanent members of the Security Council is a proxy for their possession of nuclear arms. We would rather the US or Russia or China veto a decision with their votes than with their bombs. It's a sobering point, and makes that unfair system seem prescient.

@wjmaggos It feels like such high stakes. Would anyone really nuke an ally country to prevent them from delivering food to starving people?

I will listen and I will try to find another episode I heard talking about reform. but would the US rather nuke somebody than let the UN put in a peacekeeping force to create more of a true democracy in Palestine? I doubt it. but Israel has nukes now even though they won't admit it and might. IDK
