@blake @xy Ah, you absolutely aren't supposed to navigate to `/index.php`. If you navigate to `/` and it redirects to `/install` and then issues a 500 error, this means URL Rewriting works and the issue is somewhere else.
Again, with a 500 error something should be logged somewhere, probably your Apache error log.

@xy I sincerely appreciate your help, by the way! This is an interesting tool but just confirms what I'm witnessing in the browser: going directly to the site redirects to /install and returns a 500 error. Going directly to index.php redirects to infinitely many /install/install...etc
