If you could get one piece of tech (gadget, software, etc) from between 1995-2005 to get main stream again today, which one would it be? 👀

@Em0nM4stodon I would like dumb cars to become popular again. You know, cars that the owner had to drive. Cars that didn’t collect mountains of data about you. Cars with knobs and buttons!

That may not be what you were looking for.

@nazokiyoubinbou @Em0nM4stodon @moelassus the EU is changing regulations to encourage tactile buttons and switches instead of the all purpose touch screen, as cars without buttons etc will get lowered safety ratings

@Em0nM4stodon @moelassus I've been wondering what he heck is going on with this really. Like no one seems to care? Really? No one? People aren't... hacking them or something at the very least?

Apparently someone recently (Subaru I think it was?) got the point on buttons at least. Probably still spies though...

@moelassus @Em0nM4stodon I'm pretty sure that this is actually exactly the kind of thing being looked for here.

I think this came up in reference to the earlier post about The Last of Us having the tech of that time period without all the modern enshittification.

Cars are a wonderful example of this.

@nazokiyoubinbou @moelassus I find it really terrifying how there seem to be no modern alternative at all to spying cars.

I hope this is a market that develops soon. Offline cars with buttons please.

@moelassus @Em0nM4stodon This, but I don't want there to be more cars to begin with. There is no need for new cars. Every human's need can be met for long until we have to have fixed infrastructure or died with the existing, pre-enshittification cars, by maintaining them.
