I never understood why Christians in America never bothered to question why they celebrate "he is risen" with pagan symbolism 😏 in fact all of the holidays they celebrate are nearly entirely European pagan symbolism. They call it Christmas but the entire celebration is yule. Easter is spring equinox. They could have just as easily chosen December 1st as Christmas or April 8th as Easter since they don't have any definitive dates for the birth and reanimation of Christ. I believe they did it that way to make a middle eastern abrahamic religion palatable for Europeans the same way they made Buddhism, which is essentially Hinduism, palatable for the Asians. Christianity, although widespread and popular amongst European cultures, was never an originally European belief system. They had to incorporate a shitload of paganism into it in order to mesh well with the European mindset. Why I like my paganism without all the subversive (((middle eastern))) cut.
