   Seems like so many people from #octodon have not moved to new instances, really sad to see it go down and bring so many connections with it. Some of my oldest fediverse followers are only there.

     @liaizon It was one of the main independent and general-purpose instances of the early Mastodon Fediverse! I suddenly discovered now that it's gone. Do you know what led up to it closing?

     Announced six (ish?) months in advance, closed on its tenth anniversary 2025-04-03, three weeks ago, because ... it had run its course, apparently? Owner was done with it. This pieced together from scattered cached posts.

     The site has been explicitly removed from the Wayback Machine, so I won't disrespect the owner and dig around for cached or archived posts to link to. Happy to hear if there's a blog post or something on the topic.
