@Polychrome meanwhile i'm thinking about learning how to image edit with Blender, most of my use is colour adjustments and filtering anyways, and i do Not like the GNU IMP 3 UI
@sinewave@Polychrome Hi! Would you mind sharing what's different about the 3.0 and 2.10 layouts?
We've gotten complaints from both sides - either we didn't change it at all, or we changed it too much. Having some specific details would be good to know!
@CmykStudent@sinewave I've more or less managed to get GIMP to accept my system GTK theme but there's still some odd issues like the path text being all tightly condensed for some reason. Also CTRL-L doesn't seem to let me edit the path manually via keyboard. These might be a GTK3 thing.
3.0 feels like it's trying to be an UI/UX remake, like Blender's restyling around 2.8, which is bound to draw some complaints but be better in the long run
but it instead ends up feeling like a poorly reskinned 2.10 to me, things don't feel better, they just feel slightly.. off, while also working a bit worse
basically, it changed too much without actually changing at all, if that makes sense?

there's also some weird issues which may or may not be on the GTK side, like the cursor disappearing over slider controls i mentioned i think elsewhere in the thread
also opening settings sometimes crashes the whole thing, which i'll actually need to report at some point if i don't forget (i probably will, my memory is terrible)

my personal suggestion would be to make it a long-term goal to rethink the UI/UX from the ground up, similar to what was done with Blender; it will piss off some long-time users in the short term, but also likely will make the whole thing more accessible to new users
@sinewave@CmykStudent what you're saying about the UI feeling oddly off seems about right but I think the reason is the move from GTK2 to GTK3 which probably required a rewrite.
