@Sherri_Ingrey @ninafromcanadaeh It's why early Christianity was seen as a death cult. Its adherents talked about eating and drinking human flesh and blood, and were not afraid to die. The not being afraid to die made its followers difficult to control, especially when it spread in slave populations, because it led to uprisings.
Christianity's egalitarian message as practised by the strains which prioritised the individual's relationship to God were instrumental in improving the lives of the living. This was a marked shift towards individuality rather than the collectivism of a structure/ hierarchy.
Most religions can be seen as the development of understanding human psychology and social systems. -
