     @kaia i'm impressed that he's willing to speak truth to weakness in this video. I experienced a lot of the same. I always studied compsci and did programming, so i was always doing well, but i had plenty of 'kommilitonen' who only studied japanese and something equally useless. i received offers to live in japan for a year (no jpanese skillz required) on the compsci mailing lists, but they had like 1 or 2 scholarships a year for 300 people, and those wouldn't really pay, but you'd get like, a dorm room and some food, and no perspective for a follow-up. I later taught introductions to compsci in my japanese studies institute (on a volunteer basis) and got some converts, and they thanked me for saving them (their words). uni education is so fucked up and just destroys a lot of lives.

     @lain makes sense. good that you did not fall into this trap. sadly people watch YouTubers (just like dogen) have a successful career while praising JP (a confirmation or trap bias)
