    Interesting

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c20xn626y81o

    Apparently, laptops and smartphones as well as a few other electronics are actually exempt from the recent US import tariffs. I regularly export computers to the USA.

    I'm still keeping my eye on the news but I'll add this update to Minifree, since it currently does not mention exemptions.

    Libreboot is free/opensource BIOS firmware that I maintain and sell, via https://minifree.org/ and developed on https://libreboot.org/

    What a damp squib over nothing!

      I guess the Trump regime realised that the people would likely start a revolution if their iphones suddenly doubled in price. They know that the plebs (as they see them) will probably tolerate coffee prices going up. They can keep food prices down since USA has pretty efficient and cheap agricultural methods.

      But not their precious devices. They need people to stay docile on facebook.

      Good news for me. Means I can continue selling to US customers easily without interruption. Business as usual.

      @libreleah

      astonishingly, the US just became a net importer of food despite having an outrageous amount of good agricultural land

      competent leadership could, hypothetically, tilt production back domestically and stabilize food prices like you suggested

      of course, all signs point to the leadership being anything but competent

      @ceresbzns They are competent (albeit evil), but the problem for them is the rest of the world is no dummy.

      Europe won't be pushed around. Our grandparents saw what fascism is, first hand (and if you're Portuguese, your parents saw it).

      Most of Europe sees Trump for what he is, but I don't think even most of us Europeans understand the magnitude of it yet:

      It's digital fascism, and their government has more data about US citizens than the Stasi had about East German citizens. A lot more data.
