Still on that journey to not suppress stimming. It's such a burned in habbit to suppress it. Knowing how helpful it is doesn't really undo that drive to "be normal" that was engrained in to me.
Thing is, I AM normal. I'm a normal autistic Koda.

@Austinheisley
Likewise.
@hellomiakoda I am glad to have met you
@hellomiakoda I decided the same, and the weird looks and questions are pallettable now that I have some resolve in giving a close to zero amount of fucks about them. lol
cheers in your stimming adventures!
ps, one of my recent auditory stims DID get me into trouble. I am pretty sure it was not noise ordinance time, but at 0723, I hit a large pipe with a hammer. 3 days later I cot a word wrapping from my neighbor, not quite mad, but also like..."bruh...wtf". So I am working on stim magnitude still.
@thejikz
Yeah, stims annoying people when it's something ACTUALLY an irritant (not that BS where they find silent hand fksps annoying somehow) is a valid complaint. I had to find a different stim for focusing at my computer, and keep my feet off the floor when gaming, cause the noise was keeping up one of my roommies.
I just wish she'd understand how much effort that was. Being accused of not caring about the noise I make kinda hurt.
@thejikz
Also, banging on something for a particular sound is relatable! For me, empty soda bottle on my head when I finish it is one... and is one I kinda have to not do. lol
@thejikz
Yes! And I'd mindlessly do it for HOURS!
@hellomiakoda I used to do empty soda bottles!! that snappy bounce!!!!
@thejikz
This was validating to hear. I appreciate you said it. ❤️
I'm still trying to fully accept another stim, my most helpful stimmy thing.... Not sure why I'm as self conscious about it as I am
@thejikz
For me... I never grew out of thumbsucking. I simply switched to a pacifier in my teens cause I need my hands free, and I didn't want to essentially lick everything I've touched.
My mother did a lot of shaming over it, which still affects me, still trying to shake it. It just keeps me calm.
@hellomiakoda I have quite a few and am VERY visible in my job. I turned most of the distracting (auditory usually) stims into quirks that are acceptable, but certainly not without the bumps along the way!
I still get told occasionally to straighten up...but at least now they understand I am not trying to be a bung hole. Support really does make a big difference.
The neighbors are remarkably chill about the chop saw and table saw at 3am still.
