   so, if y’all didn’t know, though i was born in #NYC, i grew up all the way into adulthood in #PuertoRico. so USA culture is like my adopted cousin twice removed culture.

   which is why i didn’t grow up with Dr. Seuss or Thomas The Tank Engine books or tv. so when i became a mom, Dr. Seuss was a yeah but the creepy, proto-fascist train was a rotund, NO!

     @blogdiva I grew up with Romper Room. Which was even more authoritarian.

     The Pledge of Allegiance.

     Praying before the meal of orange juice,cereal and milk.

     Do Bee and Don't Bee. Teaching "morals".

     The "teacher" was always "Miss". In LA it was Miss Mary Ann.

     Preschool kids watched it every morning.

     Sesame Street came a few years later.

     i don’t know if i’ve written about it here. i have blogged about it and posted a thread eons ago on Xitter:

     am one of those kids who sued (thru my dad, of course) and won, to exercise my right to NOT recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

     since then, was branded a trouble-maker by the school principal. my parents wanted put me in another school but i wouldn't let them because fuck that gusana de mierda.
