     This can all be controlled by the card processor. You can choose a ton of different restrictions to put on the transaction like eliminating gift/prepaid cards, requiring name and address matching, etc.

     @lain @feld @sun @whiteline @ageha That doesn't actually work very well, lots of banks give authorized users the same numbers and just swap the name on the printed card, debit can be run as credit, and "gift" credit cards will authenticate with any name at all.

     So they know. But how they know is probably not proof enough for the government to be happy.
     
     This whole problem sucks I hate where the internet is going

     @sun @feld @Zettour @whiteline @ageha i mean, every single time i buy alcohol my age gets checked, it's the smae in most countries. this is an everyday transaction and it's not complicated or expensive or hard to do. there is no issue here.
