A few weeks ago, there was some chatter about how this would be a good time for #Canada , #mexico , or even #EuropeanUnion to acquire a generation of accomplished #Science researchers from the USA.

I don't suppose that there's any new developments on that topic? ( Or how to even search for it.)

@blaise I don't know of anything at country or continental scale, but did read about some welcoming at the university scale: https://www.lemonde.fr/en/science/article/2025/03/17/the-french-university-welcoming-american-researchers-targeted-by-trump-s-administration_6739235_10.html

@blaise I left academia when I was offered $21, 000 to study/research for my Ph. D. - and my colleague, who had a Ph. D. in theoretical physics for nine years was concerned about whether he would get his $30K endowment the next year. My brother, who quit school in grade 10, made $9,000 that October scallop fishing - qualifications? A strong back and a weak mind

Many countries are recruiting academics, generally in targeted fields. This is not new, but there have been a few semi-organized efforts in the past few weeks. Much of the media coverage, however, is from within the USA. Here is some from other media:
