As we all know, President Donald Trump’s on/off tariffs will lead to a manufacturing boom in the U.S., with legions of former USAID workers happily screwing tiny components into dirt-cheap smart phones. Or… will it? @404mediaco’s @jasonkoebler talked to Todd Weaver, founder of Purism, creator of the “made in the USA” Liberty Phone. “The phone that you were able to manufacture in the United States is not as fast as the latest iPhone. Can the newest best chips and components be manufactured in the U.S., and what would it take to do it here?” asks Koebler. “The short answer is yes ... because you didn't ask me the timing,” replies Weaver.
