How do I make a full disk backup of an Android phone?
Searching online this stuff I get into SEO hell with sites suggesting I use Google Shitbox Backup Solution or something that's completely not related to what I want at all.

Like seriously I just want a disk image. My phone's motherboard is dying and I just to make an ISO of the entire internal storage chip and copy it to a new motherboard.

@takao@shitposter.world It's not actually dead yet. I just have to perform CPR on it about once a week. I don't have any flash chip data dump tools. I just want to make a full disk back up using my PC through USB or to an SD card maybe?

@warmbeverageenjoyer@fsebugoutzone.org Yes I have a rooted phone and I can boot into recovery.
This indeed made me realize that I can probably back everything up from TWRP that I have installed. -

@SuperDicq do you mean like cloning the thing? You're probably looking for nandroid backups, then

Link is old but probably still relevant. Your phone would need to already be rooted, though -

@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @warmbeverageenjoyer@fsebugoutzone.org Well that's easy then. Guess that's what I'll do.

@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @warmbeverageenjoyer@fsebugoutzone.org Never mind turns out I don't have TWRP but whatever the stock LineageOS recovery image is, which does not have a backup functionality.

@dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @warmbeverageenjoyer@fsebugoutzone.org I don't feel like playing with flashing bootloaders. I think I will just use adb backup instead which is like close enough I guess.

@phnt@fluffytail.org @dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @warmbeverageenjoyer@fsebugoutzone.org Isn't adb backup easier at this point?

@SuperDicq @dushman @warmbeverageenjoyer adb backup is I think deprecated in modern Android versions and it was never properly documented, so your mileage my vary. In conversation permalink -

@SuperDicq @dushman @warmbeverageenjoyer I've tried it once on a Xiaomeme phone and while the OS new what adb backup is and had some UI for it, it didn't backup most things. In conversation permalink -

@phnt@fluffytail.org @dushman@hollow.raccoon.quest @warmbeverageenjoyer@fsebugoutzone.org Honestly I mostly just want this for the application data and settings. All my photos and such are synced Nextcloud anyways.

@SuperDicq @phnt @dushman @warmbeverageenjoyer TWRP can backup all partition tables, but that's only useful for flashing onto the same device or the exact same model with the same partition table layout.
To backup application data and settings, you want oandbackup or neobackup; https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.machiav3lli.backup/ as that can save everything into an .apk file.In conversation permalink Attachments
