JK Rowling has accused NHS Fife of attempting to hide the appearance of trans medic Dr Beth Upton in the next round of Sandie Peggie tribunal hearings. The health board has launched a legal bid to block the public from viewing the conclusion of the tribunal in July, as the veteran nurse sues her employers and Dr Upton for harassment.
The first two weeks of hearings in February saw thousands of people watch the proceedings online, with Dr Upton – a biological male who was previously known as Theodore – giving evidence for several days. Responding to a report about NHS Fife's latest move, Rowling responded on X: "Presumably because it will be easier to pretend a large, trans-identified natal male belongs in women's changing rooms if the public can’t see what he looks like."
Another account, called Kalopsia, said: "First they took your words. Then they took your spaces. Now they want to take your right to even see it happen. This isn't about safety. It's about domination through silence."
