   @f4grx @Lydie Might try Shredos (a disk wiper USB stick) and have it do multiple passes of attempting to write gibberish to all sectors, then look at the smart data for the drive after. In windows you could use something like gsmartcontrol for examining the drive after wiping.

   You might also try Spinrite in one of its modes which tries to do sector level refreshing and data recovery.

     @Lydie @Infoseepage But the thread seem to have somewhat dissolved? What extensive disk test tool was suggested in this conversation a few weeks ago?

     we now have the damn disk on a test station and we're ready to torture it.
