I'm sorry but WHY is it so hard to figure out how the network is configured on a modern Debian 12 server? The ip address and interface config is not found anywhere in /etc but somehow it exists and uses the correct static IP on boot
why the hell did Debian/Linux have to make it so complicated to configure the network? There should be one way and ONLY one way-

@feld On my Debian 12 machine it’s in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections and configured via nmcli.

@hal_pomeranz
it could also be /etc/network/interfaces
it could also be /etc/netplan
it could also be /etc/systemd/network/10-ens3.network
It all depends on what came with your cloud image
I hate this OS so much. It used to be good because it was reliable and simple and now it's just a nightmare to deal with these things. DNS configuration is also incredibly opaque. -

@feld @hal_pomeranz on nixos (yeah, yeah) at least, there's centralized config knob https://search.nixos.org/options?channel=24.11&size=50&sort=relevance&type=packages&query=networking -
