   As I have shared here and there I am engaged in a decades long very painful, brutal and dogged self-imposed job of talking politics with my dad who is extremely religious & right. I strive to continue to be perhaps the only not-that voice he ever listens to in his tradcath world. At any rate, everything is bullshit, and many things have failed to reach him that I thought would, but he is profoundly horrified by the seizure of international students and the trampling of their right to expression

     It is just amazing and moving to me. We do not consume the same information or hear the same stories and our ecosystems are completely different. Nevertheless he sought out the video himself to watch what happened to Rumeysa Öztürk specifically and now he is waging an all out campaign arguing with his 1000% rightwing facebook contacts. He is horrified by the idea that students are being threatened or detained or losing their opportunities for trying to stand up for less death in the world.

     I also think it just goes to show what I've learned with my family here, that in the real actual world of doing this work it's not about the point scoring and pundit ranking of issues. It is genuinely mind boggling to me that the science stuff doesn't reach here but a supposedly very "left" issue went completely to my dad's heart and human empathy. You just never ever know and we have to try everything

     @grimalkina For my dad, the Zelenskyy meeting was the big shock. We have to keep trying to expand those openings when we can find them. I’m also emphasizing that the tariffs are taxes and they kept telling us that taxes are bad…
