@killyourfm love it! Would replace one of the socks for a summer sock, weather is flip flopping between cold and hot 😉

I'm going to hike a trail for a month.
I'm going to walk across the length of Oregon.
Everything I need will be on my back.
      It JUST sunk on.
      Holy crap...

@killyourfm as an ultralight hiker in my free time, I gotta ask what kind of sleeping pad that is. I’ve been using an inflatable nemo pad, but everyone seems to swear by the accordion folding pads.

@itsmekeli It's the NEMO Switchback, and I did not expect to love it as much as I do. Previously I was using an REI AirRail air pad and it was...fine. But somehow I'm getting better sleep on JUST the Switchback -- and I'm a side sleeper.

Thing defies the laws of physics. Bonus point with the accordion pads: I can hang it outside my pack or between the brain and body for a bit more room inside!

@itsmekeli I hope you end up liking it! This one only has a 2.0 R Value though, so probably best to avoid sub-freezing temps with it.

@killyourfm I’ll have to give it a try! I’m also a side sleeper and my current pad is “just ok”. It was good enough for the Appalachian trail hike last summer, but it wasn’t particularly comfortable for any of the nights. Ironically it was more expensive than the accordion ones😭

@JonTheNiceGuy @JoeRess Not a dumb question at all! I might wash socks/underwear in a creek or river every few days. But the OCT has many opportunities to just exit the beach/trail and go into a small coastal town to resupply food, do laundry, etc.

I like the Reacher approach, but these hiking clothes are too damn expensive! :D

@killyourfm dumb question but will you wash clothes and underwear etc in streams and/or the sea? Or will you stop in towns for that sort of thing?

@JoeRess @killyourfm maybe he'll be like (the fictional character) Reacher, and just buy new (but mostly good secondhand) every time they need washing?

Damn going right out in to it then, huh?

I'd take a roll of thin plastic. Fairly light and can come in very handy, especially if you're dealing with precipitation and wet gear.

I used to live in Clackamas Co. Went backpacking out in the Cascades a couple of times.

Being a WV native, camping was routine, but the backpacking into the mountains for days at a time was a new experience. Quite the adventure.

Good luck out there. Post pics

@MountainStateNomad No time like the present, right?

Thanks for the suggestion of taking a thin roll of plastic. That sounds like solid advice (and one I've not heard before). I have a raincover for my pack, but something I should probably grab on the way are dry bags or at least a big garbage bag to line the inside of the pack with.

Backpacking the Cascades must have been epic!
