   My son just discovered that the US is the richest country in the world.

   Naturally, he first question was "Why is their poor people?”

   I don't think he's ready.

   Neither am I because I don't know how to make it simple enough to explain to him.

     @majorlinux WHEW that's a doozy. I remember my first year working in education, we were watching a clip of Obama talking about how they were going to protect the middle class, and at the time I was working in a Title I school so all the kids were very poor. One of them (7th grader) came up to me and asked me why politicians never talked about the poor. I didn't know how to explain it to him.
