One more tidbit from The Repository’s coverage of the #WordPress layoffs at Automattic:
“95% of those let go were age 40 or over.”

“a Senior Quality Engineer on WooCommerce, said his entire team was let go.”
as if the quality of WooCommerce can afford to get any worse?
@kel To date I think I’ve gotten lucky here as I’m in my mid-40s. I saw it some with questions on my resume last time I looked, but it didn’t seem to slow me. Going forward I’m probably fucked like everyone else. Only good thing is at least I don’t have any debt, not even a mortgage for the place we own. Hopefully that softens the blow a bit.
I am not paranoid!
The deathly silence from every single fucking company I have bothered to get in touch with, like *every single one*, screams ageist pricks!
When they fuck it all up with AI and need people who can actually understand what is going on - if that ever happens I suppose - I am going to charge a day rate that will make their blood curdle - 5 figures! A day!
@rgulick all too true
Ah! So, mostly just the people most likely to question Matt's decisions.
@kel I’m hoping I get a bit luckier after moving to management but I get it, for sure. Lately I feel like I’m just in a holding pattern for the crash.
My advice, feel free to ignore:
Once you get over 50 - you're done!
Make sure you are in a solid permanent position with a proper pension before you reach that next decade.
Don't think that people are good and they will value experience like shit for brains here did!
I fucked up, big time. I didn't see it coming. Now I am paying the price and there is literally nothing I can do about it - been trying for years!
