From people who have been in relationships I've heard that however you treat your mother/parents is how you will treat your partner is this true?

You either learn how to treat your partner or how to raise children from your parents, or you learn how NOT to treat your partner and raise children. It depends a lot I think on how well you were raised. If there was a good healthy relationship, there are probably gonna be things that you unconsciously copy and never even think about it. So sure, there are gonna be some similarities. But I stress "similarities", because your partner will never be exactly like your parent, so your behavior will adapt to him/her.
But if the relationship was bad, you're more likely to end up thinking about your parents actions, and try to do things differently.TL;DR There are always gonna be things you pick up from your parents, but it's not gonna be a perfect 1-to-1 correlation to how you treat other people, especially if you had a bad relationship with your parents.
