I just did a quick comparison of how search results looks on Google, DuckDuckGo, and self-hosted SearXNG
First Google: 🤮 three screenshots and few actual search results
I just did a quick comparison of how search results looks on Google, DuckDuckGo, and self-hosted SearXNG
First Google: 🤮 three screenshots and few actual search results
Next DDG: better, though a bit of stuff added at the top and other random stuff, but shows a good amount of actual results
Self-hosted SearXNG: 👍 I like it for simplicity….it is mostly just the same search results that Google buries under ads and slop. Which is not surprising since it includes Google, DDG, etc. in its meta-search.
I’d prefer to shrink the meta info on top (eg, response time), which I can probably do since I’m hosting it. Also, it shares less info with Google, DDG, etc. since it just uses their search APIs
@FlockOfCats I’m rather enjoying Kagi (paying for it) with the Orion browser for general browsing.
