Washington DC has a garden full of Sakura trees (Japanese Cherry Blossoms) that bloom every Spring. It was given to the US by the Japanese as a symbol of peace and friendship after WWII signifying the fragility and beauty of life, and how important protecting it is.

The fact that Japan has given the US a bunch of trees as a gift means it, as a former adversary, has given more to the US in friendship than America's "Greatest Ally" ever has, or will.
