Agreed. Apocalyptic Utopianism inevitably tends to become nihilism: if the only thing that matters is to bring about the apocalypse / revolution / messiah after which everything will be completely different, then nothing that exists now matters.

@Remittancegirl Not only that: the main threatening element of the christofascists is that they have this apocalyptic faction that makes them short-termist <and> accelerationist in nature, and that means that whatever plans any other faction makes, they will be hindered, filtered, and/or blocked by those arseholes. China may be totalitarian but has it's feet in the "real world" or at least in an understandable rational perspective of the future.

@Illuminatus It’s exactly the opposite. As left wing as I have always been, I know how grim China is. But when faced with a choice between a racist, christofascism dictatorship and a totalitarian dictatorship with long, long term plans and a billion person population, I KNOW who is going to come out on top.
Morally, there’s no daylight between them. Economically, it’s China for the win.
And, btw, this was not a foregone conclusion. Trump did this. Absolutely.

@Remittancegirl The christofascist arseholes in the US believe they can keep an empire by becoming an autarchic isolationist shithole and brute force at the same time because they are a bunch of ignorant fucks who never bothered to learn history.

@Illuminatus I am pretty sure they are scared out of their wits about sanctions. But apparently feeling bold enough to take a swipe.

@Remittancegirl I would take that the Vietnamese are catching how the wind is blowing.

Now, the fact of it is one thing. Shocking.
The fact that VTV1 - Vietnamese government - absolutely party controlled news broadcast - is SAYING it so overtly.
Now that is blowing my mind.
Understand, within the VN Communist Party there have always factions who were more China friendly, and those who were more US friendly. And their respective influence kind of wax and wane, but this is … wow. Different.

So, thanks to someone on my timeline, I found tv.garden, and was watching a little VTV1 - the main Vietnamese government run station. They’re broadcasting their nightly news program.
Now - understand that Vietnam has a rather choppy relationship with China, right?
They’re reporting on the S Korea/Japan/China summit, and saying: well, this would not really have come about if it hadn’t been for how deeply destabilising Trump has been in the world. That South Korea & Japan are looking Chinawards.
