It's been a fun morning. I'm helping a Los Angeles STEM education nonprofit prepare a kids' event, and I got to build and play with this vertical wind tube. (Remarkably simple instructions here: https://gooddayswithkids.com/2015/02/08/build-wind-tube/)

1. A pink plastic hollow egg has a coffee filter attached by three strings to form a parachute. The egg assembly is placed inside a vertical clear tube about 14" in diameter constructed from thin clear acrylic held in place by two sewing hoops at either end. The tube rests on four giant clothespins which elevate it over a large fan blowing air upwards. When the parachute catches the air the egg blows straight up the tube, out the top, then drifts to the ground.
