@KaiserKitty I hate that entitled ass mentality. "Everything on the internet is free" is an absolutely cancerous way to operate because everything is controlled by ad dollars.

The older I get the more I move in the total opposite direction: I don't like using any free services because some company is going to shit it up for profit. Everything I rely on is self-hosted (fedi, chat, web applications) or I pay for the service (email, search), whether because I picked a service that isn't free (Kagi) or because I want to support it (Signal).
