Meme wars are always dirty. Libertarians never had a chance because any time they started to advance some spoilsport would say, 'You're for totally open borders, legalizing heroin and abolishing Social Security.' Of those three only the first is debatable, but the Libertarian Party was open borders.
Whatever idea you're pushing needs to avoid these kind of killshots.

@judgedread "But that's fascism" is as much a killshot, and all it did was make people respond with "Yes, it is!"

@p Fascism was a killshot with Boomers, to a lesser extent with GenX, and since them it's been fading fast.

@judgedread My response to the second two has remained "Yes, it is", but I have an advantage over people that think it's possible to defend the Libertarian Party. :ancapshades:

@p I'm perfectly OK with abolishing Social Security provided the tax goes away with it. Larry Niven's solution to wireheading - let evolution take its course - is mine on even number days. Odd number days I wonder just how much a haircut the population would take, having seen a few fairly intelligent people killed by opioids.
Hoppe debunks open borders well enough within the framework of the NAP.

Nothing for it.

I'm not familiar with his argument but the Spartan border is the only sensible one.

@p @judgedread Open borders have never been a ancap argument, only lefties use it.

@p Hoppe points out that in a free market society all land has an owner and no one has a right to trespass. Movement would be limited to those who were permitted by the owners, placing a hard limit. Certainly no large landholder would import 20,000 zero-skill impoverished wretches at once the way the Biden administration did to Springfield, Ohio.

> all land has an owner
Well, an owner depending on what that means. A thing is owned only to the extent the owner is able to enforce it. (The Spartan border reflects reality.)
> 20,000
In a town that only had 60,000 people to begin with, it is worth noting. If 20,000 Haitians were dropped in a major city, the people that lived in that city would not notice much of a difference, but this is an immediate shift in an entire town's culture. It's kind of egregious: "Your town, which has been the way it is for about a hundred years, is now different, by fiat of the president and the governor and probably the mayor got some kickbacks." This is different from immigration. (It does make someone wonder how people that are staunchly against gradual gentrification can reconcile it.)
