@tatsumoto There are things for which I need Real Actual Windows, baremetal. The alternative is to go without pay.
I do run Linux on my primary machine and one of my laptops. I've been running Linux of some form since 2010, and Gentoo since 2017. Spare me the marketing pitch.
@tatsumoto I'm a contractor. A common requirement in tickets I take is "Laptop running AnyDesk and PuTTY" and that's so I can basically be a KVM for some dude 4 states away.
If such a thing is required, and I don't have it, I don't get paid, and that client probably blacklists me.
And no, I'm not really in a position to be picky about clients for stupid silly shit like this.
@tatsumoto Though I should hit up the one who used to be my full-time boss and ask him how quickly I'd have been out on my ass if I was a 1000% *nix die-hard steadfastly refusing to touch anything with an NT kernel
@wowaname Kernel mode anticheat. That has an entirely separate desktop box that only runs League. Doesn't even run Discord. The box is small enough to ship to Riot's anticheat team Priority Overnight if their shit throws a false positive. I'd like to put it on its own VLAN.
But this laptop is a separate thing. It's for any programs that only run on Windows and to make sure programs I write run on Windows. I generally split development between the two environments to catch both code and UX quirks. @tatsumoto
