Full story: I stopped at a light where I was walking my bike across a nasty intersection and there was a houseless person curled up under an overhang. I gave her cash and chatted a bit and she asked if I had socks with me (she was wearing flip-flops and only had a basically empty purse with her). I said I did, but they were kind of icky since I wore them earlier today (from biking to work). I offered to get her some from grocery outlet when I got my groceries if she would still be there in 30 minutes and she insisted that she would be happy with the ones in my bag and that I shouldn't spend money to buy her a pair. I also gave her the last cookie I had on me. But this was awful. There is nothing I can do that makes a big enough difference, maybe the bit of cash I gave her is enough for something small at a fast food place? But the fact that she was grateful that I would give her what amounted to my dirty laundry to keep her feet warm made me want to cry. I can't fix this. None of us can on our own.

You know why I'm a radical: because someone called me a beautiful angel & thanked me for giving her a pair of grubby socks tonight. Capitalism sucks.
