ColMark Carney, former governor of the Bank of England, will be the next prime minister of Canada. The 59-year-old won 86% of the vote in the race to succeed Justin Trudeau as leader of the ruling Liberal party, vowing in his victory speech to maintain retaliatory tariffs on the US “until the Americans show us respect”.
