A recent study at UBC in Vancouver found that when plant leaves get too hot, they lose water through the waxy layer on top of their leaves (the cuticle), which is there to stop water loss. This temperature depends on the plant, but likely between 40 and 50℃. It's not clear from my reading as to how long the damage lasts.

This affects the moisture in the plant, but also the water cycle and could exacerbate flooding downwind from forests and grasslands.
