Will you believe me if I'll tell you that this 50 bucks toy can talk to another exactly the same 2-ish kilometers away over encrypted channel using this shitty stubby antenna which is nothing more than a brass spring in a plastic case that's not even tuned very well? And that's on low power setting!

@mk well, not this particular one. I actually opened it to see if that gps symbol on the top is just a provision for upgraded version or if it actually has the antenna installed (it does not) and I didn't find any pyrotechnics inside, so assuming exploding Chinese li-po battery isn't scary to you, you should be fine ;)
