     @sybren @signalapp after being triggered by an article on bsdnow I’m also supporting signal.
     
     You gotta pay for these services somehow and money seems better than the alternatives.

     @sybren @signalapp Is there any public data on how much Signal costs to operate? WhatsApp was making a profit on a $1/year subscription fee.

     Recently @Mer__edith said in an interview that Signal currently spends about $50 million per year to keep things running.

     I will say though that $50M to run a secure messenger service that can be banned from a country makes me seriously ask why we bother when there are alternatives that are nearly impossible to ban
