@encthenet it's not quite as direct as that. They're splitting hairs over legal theory and whether or not the Federal government ever gives up soverign immunity -- specifically when it enters into a contract. Which is ridiculous, but some people think that the government really does have the power to cancel on a whim contracts it entered into and should be legally binding.

What exactly is this newfangled legal theory where the government is bound by no laws? Why would anyone ever enter into an expensive contract with the government if they can just decide to not pay?

We're really trying to speedrun losing trust from everyone on the planet?

Yeah, 4 justices thinks that the us shouldn't pay for work that we asked people to do. Just like Trump has done at his rallies and his other properties. It's a regular move that trump (and musk) has people do work and then doesn't pay for the work.

Supreme Court denies President Trump‘s emergency bid to cancel nearly $2 billion in USAID spending. The vote is 5-4. Five fucking four on what should have been a 9-0 decision requiring no more than three sentences of explanation. A win is a win, but this is a bad harbinger
