   Why is science fiction so good at predicting the future? Is it because it inspires us to build that (dystopian) future, or were the authors just very smart to think through these things?

   I would say that science fiction might be part of the whole process by ideating those ideas. Maybe this future would not happen if they had never written about it?

     Alan Moore said that when you are writing about the future, you're not really talking about the future, you're talking about the present using the future as a backdrop for what direction current events are going.

     He wrote V for Vendetta.
     The fascism he predicted back in Margaret Thatcher's Britain came true and has gotten worse.

     Try watching his Mindscape documentary.

     @obrhoff Yeah I don't know if sci-fi is good at predicting the future or we're just discarding all the space lizard lore - or a mixture of both.
