   Are book imports exempt from Canada/Mexico tariffs? It seems…maybe? (IANAL) Information and informational material in any kind of printed or physical digital media appears to not be covered as Congress didn't grant permission to the president in its delegation of tariff authority to include that sort of material in tariffs? Would love an expert to weigh in.

     Word from Etsy and my shipper ChitChats is that the tariffs have maintained the $800 “de minimis exemption”

     Which means that small exporters from Canada aren’t affected (yet) 🤞🏼

     @AccordionBruce @glennf Also, if every 2 by 6 came with a copy of some book on it and got put into the frames of buildings in a human readable form, there's a good chance that it might survive for some future post apocalyptic society to find and appreciate (before they toss it in their fire to keep warm). Mass duplication with global distribution. The Long Now Foundation should get on this...

     @AccordionBruce @Infoseepage Yes, that’s spelled out explicitly in the tariff official filings! Very clear. The specific informational materials exemption I think would apply to book or DVD shipments of any size.

     @AccordionBruce @glennf Reminds me a little of this software, created as a bit of a joke/thought experiment of how you could use a printer+scanner to store digital data on paper as a dot pattern and then restore it by scanning it in. Turns out a ordinary sheet of paper can hold about half a megabyte.
