Hey #photography fedizens! What general purpose, not bulky, #camera model(s) would you suggest for someone who "just" wants to take better pictures than with their smartphone?

@aaribaud Photos of what, for what budget, do you intend to keep spending money, and how hard do you want to work at it?

That would be a one-time spending, say 200 € but that's not a hard constraint. The person is not a photography enthusiast and will do casual shots mostly, no macro or sports shots.

@aaribaud. Yeah, with that, I would say a phone app that lets you control your aperture, ISO and shutter speed manually. Memory cards cost that much these days.

@timdesuyo Would a higher budget change things, and if so, how much higher?

@aaribaud If you're looking at being locked into one lens like a phone, and you dont want to take any photos of anything far, like birds or sports, or anything macro, then a good used Fuji x100. If youre going cheap and dont want to dive into the deep end in the future, a used fuji x-pro and a 35mm f/2 lens. If you will dive into the deep end in the future, a used Nikon or Sony mirrorless and a wide-aperture lens (35mm if crop sensor, 50mm if full frame).
