No one, literally no one, with a background in economics has a doubt that tariffs harm the economy.

Short to midterm inflation shows up because the tariffs will be add to prices.

Mid to long term the competitiveness of the own industries will suffer because the domestic companies are protected from international competitors.

Once the tariffs are withdrawn the domestic companies will suffer heavy losses in sales. Some will go bankrupt. Own citizens prefer better products.
