me and amelia's job have a lot of work calls and it's getting to be something that needs to be logistically addressed. I'm thinking of something like this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/334549159629 that routes to an esp and then relays to an LED display that can update the status in real time or something. i'm pretty sure someone has to have done this before right
@acquirer@allegedly.illegitimate.technology I was just thinking of a work call status thing. The time tracker part would be interesting but not needed at all. I could probably do this myself with esps, buttons and a screen pretty easily, idk if anyone has made something for this already since it seems really simple though.
@acquirer@allegedly.illegitimate.technology yeah i already have a full home assistant setup but I think I'll just make these with a pair of esp8266s with wireless communication using esp-now and i'll just drill holes into the push button enclosures I got to put some status LEDs and I should be able to have these all wired up really quickly I'm planning on putting some frosted hot glue around the LEDs to diffuse them but I will need to see how they look currently, they'll probably not be recessed now that I think about it
@shibao ran into the same issue with a guest and there are Bluetooth rechargeable RGB LED pods you can buy and control on a phone or other control mechanism to indicate a call or whatever, there are also commercial solutions under the term "busy light"
@shibao@acquirer there are pre-existing 'busy light' units but i don't know if they've been reverse engineered. the blink already has a protocol & cli app.
assuming you also don't just like, dedicate a hue to turn funny colors either
