     But what if he really did used to be a nuclear physicist? That would be so cool!

     (thought they usually don't need personal rad monitors, funnily enough there was a grad student in the lab who did because the lab used to do radiation work and she did almost all of it, and she's getting a PhD in biology/pharmaceutical sciences)
