   I’ve just finished migrating our backups & #mastodon media storage from backblaze to Hetzner. I’ve absolutely no issue with backblaze — I’ve used them for over five years & had zero problems.

   My total storage has just surpassed 1TB, which makes Hetzner slightly better value. Rclone & nginx reverse proxy have made the process mostly transparent from a #sysadmin perspective.

   For those interested, my current setup:

   Family & personal data

   Live data: 🇬🇧 (raid1)
   Primary backup: 🇫🇮
   Secondary backup: 🇩🇪

   Mastodon
   ————-
   Primary data: 🇫🇮
   Backup: 🇩🇪

     @daniel oh well, just be careful about what you host with them because they may end your account and data without warning.

     One day you may wake up and it's all gone without explanation (been there...). Stay with Hetzner if you want but keep backups with another company too.

     I think that the main problem with B2 is to be a US company and Hetzner has great infra and price but is not to be trusted (and they host the AfD).

     @daniel happened with @Ursalzona a while ago (one year, to be precise).

     I manage their server and one morning there was nothing left. They still sent us an invoice!

     There are other cases, especially with queer instances, but I have no further info about them to share so it's best to tell about what I saw first hand.

     @cadusilva I am sorry that you had a bad experience with Hetzner. I haven't seen any reports of particularly bad behaviour from Hetzner - do you have any links?

     Your point regarding over-reliance on a single provider is well-taken. I've added a secondary backup to my mastodon stack on hardware that I control.

     @daniel anyway, I guess that in case of trouble you're now safer with a secondary backup.
