camping in this park is fun because first Saturday of the month they close an 8 mile scenic hwy through old growth coastal redwood forest to cars, and it becomes an idyllic towering forest carnival of bikes, kids, skates, trikes etc

it’s a gentle slope with many side trails you can stop and walk on and one bike/hike trail that goes down to the ocean. coastal redwoods are the tallest organisms on earth and very little old growth survived US capitalism, so cycling through those towering beings with no cars anywhere is incredible, total highlight of my winter travels
