Just received a panicked satellite telephone call from a fishing vessel currently fishing in the middle of the North sea saying that he needs help as all of the vsat, PC's and all screens on the vessel have gone off. It's not a vessel I know well so spent a while getting them to check breakers on the bridge and the engine room but nothing. I got them to plug a mobile charger in the double socket by the captains seat and it was working. So I wondered if there was a UPS somewhere. After getting the crew to hunt through the consoles and finding nothing, I asked if there was a hatch in the wheelhouse floor. Bingo as in the void space was a UPS beeping. Got them to try a few things but it was dead. Luckily there was only one output cable so I got them to connect the input to the output. Then I heard a loud cheer. Everything had come back to life. Job done. 😎
